Energy Pharma & Hospital Conference:  An important event that brought together Energy Managers, maintenance and production professionals, and gave the opportunity to compare current energy saving and management strategies, tools and models, as required from Italian standards (D.Lgs 102/2014).

The conference comprised of two parallel sessions over one day to deepen energy efficiency trends in both hospitals and pharmaceutical industry sectors.  The main aspects of the conference include:

•Discretionary criteria for Energy Efficiency titles acquisition

•How to obtain energy improvement

•Co-generation and Tri-generation advantages and comparison

•Use of LED lighting to reduce global energy demand

•Revamping Commercial solutions

•Energy monitoring systems

•Building automation systems

•Industry 4.0

Our EOG partners presented the INDICATE project under the following title: Il progetto europeo INDICATE: il software a supporto della progettazione di ospedali verdi e città intelligenti (INDICATE European project: the tool that supports smart cities and green hospitals) INDICATE tool is presented, with particular focus on the two demonstrations sites and some of the results obtained from Galliera site application of the tool (benchmark data and simulations).

Sustainable Urban Indicators

A key part of the INDICATE project involved the development of a suite of Sustainable Urban Indicators (SUI) to provide metrics in relation to energy use in the urban environment, and to quantify current conditions along with the impact of proposed interventions as part of the operation of the INDICATE tool. 30 key SUIs were selected over three categories including: 8 Carbon Reduction indicators; 14 Energy Efficiency indicators; and 8 Cost Reduction indicators.

As part of the INDICATE project, a website was created (http://energy-indicators.eu/) to provide details regarding the selected SUIs and to illustrate how these indicators are employed in the INDICATE tool.

The website also presents a video depicting a scenario that focuses on the feasibility of establishing an urban renewable solar photovoltaic (or ‘PV’) energy system. This video also demonstrates how the SUIs are utilised within the tool to inform the decision making process.

There was an excellent turnout for the final INDICATE dissemination event on the 15th of November 2016 in the County Museum Dundalk, and it provided a great opportunity to present the final prototype tool to many Irish based stakeholders. The INDICATE team would like to sincerely thank An Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council Mr. Paul Bell for addressing the event and for his encouraging words, and to all those attended for giving up their time and providing valuable feedback. We would like to thank Louth County Council for their support throughout this project and for hosting this event and providing lunch afterwards.
